Secretary Clinton's Pledge of Support to Mexico

This BBC article provides a concise yet detailed description of U.S. and Mexico efforts to regain some level of control in the war on the border. It is refreshing to see that the U.S. seems to finally be increasing the level of attention paid to the issue as evidenced by the presence of the Secretaries of State, Defense, Homeland Security, and the Chairmen of Joint Chiefs. Secretary Clinton’s mention of the U.S.’s primary role in providing the demand that fuels the drug trade was a welcomed relief. In addition to increased funding, it will be interesting to see what additional resources the federal government provides and the impact that results. Perhaps the most astounding aspect of the article is the mention of the 18,000 people that have perished since 2006 due to the drug war. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8582497.stm
